Crampy pain: This type of pain comes in waves, usually begins and ends suddenly. Also, it is often severe. Kidneys and gallstones are common causes of this type of abdominal pain.

Causes of Abdominal Pain

  • Firstly, abdominal pain is caused by changes in the intestines, stomach, gallbladder, bladder, or uterus.
  • The region where the pain appears can indicate which organ is in distress; for example, pain from the left side of the abdomen can indicate diverticulitis.  So, the top can indicate a gastric ulcer, while pain on the right side can indicate liver problems.
  • Secondly, the ache ranges from simple situations like excess gas to more complicated problems like appendicitis or kidney stones.
  • Besides, when there is very intense abdominal pain that lasts more than 24 hours or is accompanied by other symptoms such as fever, persistent vomiting, and blood in the stool or urine, you should go to the emergency room or see a family doctor.

Types of Abdominal Pain

  1. Burning pain: Hence, pains that arise in the stomach from gastritis, ulcer, and reflux usually appear with a burning sensation in this region.
  2. Colicky pain: problems in the intestine such as diarrhea or constipation. And also, in the gallbladder, it can manifest as colic. Consequently, they also appear in pain caused in the uterus, such as menstrual cramps.
  3. Stitches or pricks: Pain caused by excess gas or inflammation of the abdomen, such as appendicitis or intestinal inflammation.
  4. There are other types of abdominal pain: so, the sensation of being full or bloated, oppressive pains, or nonspecific pain is when the person cannot identify well.
  5. And also, the cause is usually identified only after performing diagnostic tests such as ultrasound and blood tests. Hence, personal medical history is performed by the GP or gastroenterologist.

If the pain worsens and does not subside after 48 hours, is accompanied by bleeding, or the body does not tolerate any food in 24 hours hence, you need to go to the emergency room.

Therefore, people with chronic illnesses, low defences, or very older people need medical attention as soon as possible.
