- Trim the excess hair.
- For most treatments, you will start by tearing off the protective paper in the center.
- Cut the rounded corners off the ends of each strip if you don’t have them already. Rounded corners are less likely to catch on clothing and help keep the tape longer
- When applying the first tab to anchor the tape, allow the end to retract slightly after removing the backing paper.
- Keep your fingers on the wrapping paper to hold the ribbon. Touching the sticky part will make it less sticky.
- Your therapist can tell you how much stretch to use in the treatment area.
- As you stretch the ribbon, use your entire thumb on the ribbon to pull it evenly.
- After applying the tape, rub the tape vigorously for several seconds. The heat activates the glue.
Tips to Remove Kinesiology Tape
- Apply oil (such as baby oil or olive oil) or lotion to the tape to loosen the tape.
- Slowly remove it. Don’t pull like you’re waxing
- After pushing one end of the tape, press your skin to separate it from the tape
- Pull the tape against itself rather than away from you. Gently compress the skin while pulling the tape in the direction of the tab at the end
- Run your fingers over the skin as you go
- If your skin is irritated or damaged, do not reapply the tape. Consider talking to your physiotherapist or doctor
